Cramming

Tips on how to make a successful cramming: (1) Huwag hihiga sa inyong malambot na kama. Boy Bawang, highly recommended. Sabi nga nila ang cramming ay parang junk food – ipinagbabawal sa mga eskwelahan, pero it’s still better than no food at all! Cramming is still better than not studying at all. (6) During the exam, huwag tumabi sa cute. Sana lang next year, tuloy-tuloy ang institute paper natin, so we can express ourselves more freely. Salamat sa ‘The Entrepreneurs’ and more power!

A FRESH START

I was sitting under the umbrella tree in front of the faculty building of IEA when Ma’am Leah approached me and told me about the release of our first ever institute paper. At last, an institute publication for the students of the IEA. Having this kind of publication doesn’t mean competition among the six institutes but an opportunity for us to voice out what is happening in our own institution. A publication that focuses not only within the institution but it also analyzes issues outside the school campus as well.

Being the first editor-in-chief for the institute publication is just one of the roles that I never planned. Hard to believe because I’ve been to school politics for almost two years and entering the school publication never stroke a string in the recesses of my mind. But all of these changed when an unusual thing happened during the election of officers for the Supreme Student Council, a big thing to me that changed my perception about school politics and caught myself holding my pen as a weapon to write the truth. From then, I focused my attention and went full time writing for the institute publication-I never looked back since, not because I didn’t want to but because it’s been a dizzying and exhilarating ride.

The Institute paper will serve as a major venue for the exercise of campus press freedom. Through this, both the institute press and the target audience will appreciate the role of the press in shaping public opinion and the importance of maintaining the standards of the practice of journalism.

The institute paper will serve as the voice of the students and will serve as watchdogs for the public. In today’s setting, the institute press can help strengthen the youth and consequently will form a social change.

Institute press differs from other sources of information because Institutional publications are theoretically for the youth. It is expected to maintain fairness and objectivity but at the same time uses the perspective of the youth in analyzing the situations within the Institute and within the school campus and the larger community as well. That’s why the release of the first “baby” should be hailed by students of the IEA for we the Editorial Board, Staff and Adviser shed a lot of ink, spent sleepless nights and squeezed our brains for the completion of our “first born”.( Thanks to the Faculty and Staff of the IEA. Long live The Entrepreneur! CHEERS!!!

Election of Institute Officers

Posted by ~ at 6:13 AM

Issues are going around regarding the accessibility of the SSC officers in Dagupan Campus. I know how hard it is for them to give their full time to fulfill the needs of the students but before running for the position, they should have trained themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Being an SSC officer is a big responsibility, it is not just a title so that you will enjoy the 100% or 50% scholarship offered by the school or to become “Sikat” or well-known by everybody. On July 03, 2008, the election of the Institute officers from Governor down to Sentinels was conducted. Sad to say that the rules implemented by the SSC regarding the SSC officers who will act as COMELEC will assist the instructors during and after the election in the IEA was unacceptable by most of the students. This was discussed with the student coordinator Mr. Placido Alsiyang because there should be equal distribution of COMELEC from the SSC officers among the 2 Institutes in Dagupan Campus. Instead, there were only two or three SSC officers present to assist. And so, the Student Coordinator admonished us to just close our eyes and so with our ears but this won’t stop me from writing the reality.

The snack for the Instructors who helped during the election which was supposedly catered by the SDF never materialized. Instead, the candidates of IEA joined forces to contribute their own allowances to provide snack for the tired instructors; while the Dean of the IAS provided the snack of the instructors in their Institute.

When we went to the SSC office to make a follow-up for the instructors in IEA, we found out that there were students inside the SSC office who are not officers. One was sitting on the receiving table acting like a president while his two feet were on the table, someone was doing something in-front of the SSC’s personal computer and a girl also was sitting and blocking the entrance of the said SSC office, even though a sign was posted restricting unauthorized persons. Maybe they were authorized to do such things. President Janrey Pascua is nowhere to be found at that time, we talked to the Vice President Dalayday but it seems that he’s busy with other things. On our way back to our building, some students were trying to mimic us – a very unethical and very unprofessional sight. It is a sign of disrespect to anybody who has the sensibility and morality. Where is our code of conduct, my dear schoolmates? They should have waited for us to leave before doing such childish acts. As long as there are issues that should be fixed, problems that should be solved and actions that should be corrected, we wont stop writing these issues, problems and actions. I’m just wondering if the Election of Institute Officers will be included in the accomplishment report of the SSC Officers?

Even though we received no help from the SSC officers, the election in the IEA was a very peaceful one, thanks to Mr. Placido Alsiyang, to the students of IEA who lent their hands and most especially to the Faculty and Staff of the IEA. Job well done! Kudos!!!

Moving on is just a part of our lives that we must consider for it is the only way for us to recover from past aches. I’ve been to many aches, been there, done that, since then I’ve been moving on and been trying to live a normal life. Being alone is just living a life without arms but when I see people without arms and yet living a normal and happy life, I’ve come to knowing then that life is really worth caring. You must not live for yourself but live and survive for others. I am going to school not because I wanted to but because I needed to for the sake of my parents and for my future also. I wanted to make my parents happy that’s why I’m serving for four years of my life in KASC. Somebody once told me that “ It is better to sacrifice4 years of your life in College rather than spending the rest of your life regretting for not having a descent job.” The person who told me that is already a 4th year in the College of Law, He’s been studying for 8years now. That person doesn’t want me to remain in his present state and he’s regretting the moment that we met for I only made his life miserable. That’s the reason why I’m writing this piece to let him know that he changed my life into a meaningful and yet a very painful one. Even if he’s now a thing from the past, his lessons and pieces advices remain forever.

Comfort Room?

By: Kniwyth Juan

Good day Folks! In this article I would like to express my own opinion regarding the C.R.’s here in our Institute. From the word comfort alone, it means convenience and security, what a pleasant word! But it seems opposite to the real scenario. Everyday as I pass-by our C.R.’s , I always see Manong Diasen, our Institute worker cleaning and flushing all the toilet bowls while humming his favorite song. The tiles are scrubbed and mopped and it feels so refreshing to see. But this scene is just a thing at the start. When we come out from our rooms after our first subject, and proceed to our daily routine- to retouch in the C.R, it is always disappointing to anyone who, even at a 5-meter distance from the C.R., smells stingy and unpleasant odor will make you feel nauseous. The white tiles then become like a muddy and swampy place because of the dirty markings of shoes and slippers and the bowls are left unflushed.

Photobucket

You know what? The fault is on us students who misuse it. Manong Diasen’s eagerness to maintain the C.R.’s cleanliness is worthless without our cooperation. It reflects on us and in out Institute as well. It is a small thing but the impact is big.

I hope that this will serve as an eye-opener not only for Manong Diasen who has the obligation to clean and maintain the C.R. but it’s everyone’s responsibility, we use it so we have the responsibility to clean it. What about if after we urinate or “pooh”, flush the bowl and rinse the floor. If everyone will do this, I am sure, no more stingy odor will disgust us and of course everybody will benefit from it and now is the right time for a change. We can do it, let us think that our Institute is a home away from home. Be a leader, if you can take a lead why follow?

Friends Are Fading Away

By: Lovelyn Y.
Jovellanos

There may be days that when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be, that is when you realized that things aren’t getting better.
I was on my way home one afternoon when I felt so tired and depressed as if something was draining all my strength. Now, I’m lying in bed wondering…

In just a wink of an eye, the smile and the sweetness on their faces was covered with shadow that when I smile at them, they never smile back at me.

I thought we will be good friends, I thought we will always have a good laugh, I thought, these are the friends who will stay and who will NEVER FADE AWAY, but I found myself slapping my face for the reason that I realized that all these THOUGHTS are just a THOUGHT and they were never real, a THOUGHT that just like a junk.

They might shake or scratch their heads why I am writing this when the truth is they did nothing against me. Perhaps they were thinking that I’m like this and I’m like that but sometimes, I wasn’t really what some people thought I was. Perhaps because when I talked to them, they didn’t hear me, when I touched them, they didn’t feel me, when I shout, nobody hears me. I’m just like a friendly ghost that when I talk, shout and touch them, nobody notices me.

Then I think irresistibly. These are the things nagging at the back of my mind. I’m asking why they are treating me like this, I even search for an answer but I can’t find one. I asked but I found no answer. Seems that I’m looking for nothing, seems that I’m a traveler traveling to nowhere. I even tried to put things back, I even tried to bring back the friendship we had started but I end up on this thought; “I failed but I tried.” Now, I realized what my nice and friendly neighborhood had told me, that having a lot of friends is useless if only few are real. I WONDER!!!

“Mahilig Ako Magsalita”
By: Sam

Sa kadadada, malimit ako’y nawawala
Sa dami ng iniisip at inaalala
Sila’y laging napapangisi,
O kaya nama’y napapatunganga.

Plastic dito, plastic doon. Ano mang pilit, orocan pa rin un.
Sa kabila ng lahat, akoy umaasa.
Masilayan ng inyong mga mata
Ang katotohanag bumabalot sa madugong lupa.

Kaibigan kaibigan….

Photobucket

Bagamat ganun, ako’y nagsusumamo.
Sana kayo’y magbago at magpakatotoo.

BIYAHE
By: D’ wanderer

Lahat ng tao sa mundo’y nagbibiyahe
Minsan may mabigat at magaang bagahe
Minsan may daang paliko at diretso
Minsan mabilis, minsan parang pagong ang takbo.

Biyaheng ibig sabihing ‘di pagsakay
O ‘di kaya’y ano mang klaseng paglalakbay
Sa lugar na may akit na tinataglay
Upang sa iyong pag uwi may ngiting tangay.

Ito’y biyahe ng iyong sariling buhay
Sa lahat ng pagkakataon ay akay-akay
Minsan problema’y mabigat dalhin
Minsan problema’y sa ngiti ay daanin.

aranasan mo nab a kaibigan?

Gaya-gaya
By: Asoid

Bakit ba hindi ako makagawa
ng isang magandang Tula?
And daming pumapasok na ideya
Pero hindi parin ako nakakapagsimula!

Hindi kaya ubos na ang aking tinta?
o ‘di kaya’y kinakalawang na talaga
Ang isipan kong nagpapahinga
Sa mga problemang nadarama.

Minsa’y tulala
Minsan nama’y nababahala
